So we haven't been doing a great job with our resolutions, but one thing we have stuck with is that we have exercised at least once a week for the entire month of January. For 2 weeks we did step aerobics, which wasn't too bad - we lack some much-needed coordination, but after a while we were able to keep up with everyone else (plus the class made me feel better because there were older and heavier people in it).
This week we decided to try cardio kicboxing at the Y by Kitty's house. We left the kids with the husbands (mine was feeding K a bottle while he played Madden... 'nuff said) and were a couple minutes late. We picked it up pretty quickly, not too hard... we got some hand weights and followed along. Then the instructor told everyone to line up around the gym. We all started walking and she said, "ok, the last person sprint to the front of the line!"
W.T.F.??? I don't run. Seriously, I don't do it, unless something is chasing me (and even in that case, I may just let it catch me because I know it will eventually). I'm very slow. I can't even jog, really. I blame it on having short legs, but really I'm just too out of shape (although is it considered "out of shape" if you've never been IN shape? not sure). So anyway, I did manage to make it around to the front (perhaps the class slowed down for me?)... then we did it 3 more times! My sides were aching. I am clearly not cut out for this sort of physical activity.
The rest of the class was pretty easy, except for when I tripped on my hand weight and twisted my ankle (I have since recovered). Now my abs are seriously aching from the bridges and bicycle crunches she made us do at the end of the class. At least I know it was a good workout!
Stay tuned as we try to conquer our laziness and attempt to improve our overall health (while leaving ample time for sitting on the couch watching television).

L.A. Week 3 - Go to Bed!
Loyal readers, I have let you down. I did not follow through with our L.A. week 2 challenge, and I have a whole list of excuses, but I won't share them! I do promise to get it done this week! Kitty, on the other hand, is now the proud owner of a sparkly, shiny refrigerator.
Last week, we fulfilled our weekly exercise requirement by attending step aerobics class. Let me just say that when 5 people (including the instructor) come up to you after class and ask, "Was this your first time?" - you probably looked ridiculous. We have, however, decided to make fools of ourselves again this week, because it was great exercise (and the girl in front of us, who knew the routine, had GREAT legs). We also both did well tracking our food last week. Although yesterday I doubled my calorie allowance by eating lunch out (with dessert - do you KNOW how many calories are in Cold Stone Creamery ice cream??), I stayed within most of the week.
This week's challenge is more driven to our overall health. Kitty and I both tend to stay up really late watching TV or reading, so this week our challenge is to turn out the light to go to sleep by 11:30 every night. Can we do it? We'll see - thank goodness I have a Tivo so I won't miss anything good!

Week 2 L.A. Challenge
Ok, it's time for Week 2's challenge - and unlike Veronica's car cleaning choice, it won't involve going outside when the weather is 20 degrees or less (that's why I only managed to throw all the trash out of my car and not do a full-on, Armor All included, cleaning!) I know, I know, I'm full of excuses.
Anyway, this week I decided we need to clean out our refrigerators. Not only will I be throwing out any strange condiments that have been there since I moved in 5 years ago, but I'm also taking all the shelves/drawers out and washing all the sticky gunk off of them. Good times!
And here's our status for week 1:
Veronica:
Track food - Mon-Fri afternoon
Eating Out - no lunches, 3 dinners (I agreed to give her a pass for this since her anniversary was on Friday!)
Clean car - got out all the trash, wiped down the whole interior, shook out mats
Exercise - 1x 30 minutes, 1x 10 minutes, 1x 25 minutes
Kitty:
Track food - every day but one
Eating out - lunch out once, dinner out once
Clean car - cleaned out trash only
Exercise - 1x for 30 minutes
